Vision

The SSAE is the Swiss center of excellence for sound ecology, actively contributing to raising awareness of (acoustic) environmental and climate issues, with the aim of embedding these topics within society.

 

Mission

Networking and Collaboration: Connecting specialists, researchers, artists, and interested individuals to promote interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaboration.

Awareness and Mindfulness: Training auditory awareness to deepen understanding of environmental sounds and their meanings.

Research and Study: Investigating the social, cultural, scientific, and ecological aspects of the acoustic environment.

Publication and Dissemination: Sharing information and knowledge on acoustic ecology, artistic inquiries, and critical discussions on relevant topics.

Documentation and Preservation: Documenting and acoustically preserving existing natural and cultural soundscapes, as well as intangible cultural heritage, to maintain the diversity and continuity of these valuable environmental elements and highlight changes.

Design and Creation: Co-developing sustainable, resilient, and acoustically balanced environments.

Protection and Promotion: Supporting initiatives and gentle activism based on insights from sound ecology to preserve natural soundscapes and protect biodiversity as one of their most important components.

Challenging Existing Social Structures: Promoting and developing alternative solutions and transformative processes.

Open Dialogues: Establishing a resource center for inquiries and a platform for open dialogue and discussions.
